Your Gold Coast holiday doesn’t have to be studded with twilight cruises and fancy dinners in order for you to have a great time.
Stick to your budget and still have a blast with the following money saving tips!
1. Spend time on the shore.
The Gold Coast is known for its beaches and, luckily, the beach is always free! Pack a picnic so you’re not tempted by snack bars or restaurants, and soak up the sun to your heart’s content.
2. Borrow water sport equipment or beach supplies from friends.
If you’re taking a car to the Gold Coast or happen to have a friend in the area, find out if there’s a surfboard, boogie board, or kayak you can use for free. In need of an esky or beach umbrella? Ask around for that too!
3. Rent a beachside apartment instead of staying in a hotel.
Not only will you save money, you’ll have more space to spread out, access to a washer/dryer, and a kitchenette where you can prepare meals. Cook together as a fun activity and split a bottle of wine instead of going out for expensive cocktails.
4. Go hiking.
The Gold Coast is home to gorgeous rain forests, so when you’re not in the mood for the beach, take time to explore the lush terrain. Hiking is a workout and a free activity – a two-for-one deal!
5. Look for free classes and events.
Concerts, yoga, exhibitions, plays – you name it and there’s probably a free version out there. Do your research before your holiday to see what free activities you can participate in during your Gold Coast trip and map out a schedule.
6. Browse markets.
Markets are held most days of the week in various locations along the Gold Coast, and are great entertainment even if you’re not planning to spend money. Feeling peckish? A snack at the market won’t break the bank.
7 Try Camping
If you’re road tripping and need to crash along the way, try camping. Those motels on the side of the main road can be overpriced, so find a pretty place to pitch a tent instead. Use the money you saved to treat yourself to a nice breakfast the next morning!
