If you’re unaccustomed to any sort of tropical climate, it’s best to know what to expect before you embark on your Gold Coast holiday.

Unpredictable, humid weather can take time to adjust to, but if you’re prepared, it’ll be much easier to embrace the tropical heat and enjoy your time in Queensland. Before jetting off to your Miami Beach accommodation, take note of the following tips to make sure you’re prepped for the Gold Coast climate.

Wear breathable fabrics.

Polyester will be no friend to you in humid weather! Leave anything itchy behind and pack your favourite cotton and linen items. Think shorts, flowing dresses or skirts, bathing suits, cover-ups, and sweat wicking essentials.

Prepare for rain.

Sudden thunderstorms are a common occurrence on the Gold Coast, especially during summer. Bring a lightweight rain jacket, wide-brimmed hat and/or umbrella if you want to avoid getting drenched.

Drink plenty of water.

Up your usual intake to account for the heat and sweat! The more hydrated you are, the easier it will be to battle the humidity. Pack a reusable water bottle to remind you to keep drinking while you’re out exploring.

Make sunscreen your best friend

Australia’s rays are especially potent, and you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors during your Gold Coast holiday. Apply sunscreen thoroughly and take it with you to top up throughout the day.

Don’t forget your insect repellant.

Mosquitos love humidity, so ward them off with your favourite repellant. Take care to reapply at sunset when they’re out at full force!

Take an electrolyte supplement.

If you’re feeling dizzy, you might be lacking in certain electrolytes. Keep electrolyte drinks or tablets that dissolve in water in your bag or backpack in case any lightheadedness hits you or someone in your party. Eating balanced meals and staying hydrated can help prevent a reoccurrence, but even so, the heat affects everyone differently. Listen to your body’s needs and don’t feel embarrassed if you need to take a break.

Embrace the frizz.

We’re sorry to tell you this, but your hair doesn’t stand a chance in humid heat. Ready yourself for frizzy locks by packing hats, hair ties, or anti-frizz products to keep whining at a minimum. Since everyone else is in the same boat, you’ll get used to your new ‘do in no time!
