Nothing weighs down a travel experience like over-packed bags! Before you head off to the Gold Coast for a summer getaway, set yourself up for a relaxing trip by learning to pack light.
Read on to discover our five rules for smarter packing and less burdensome luggage.
1. Don’t wait until the last minute to pack.
When you rush to pack the morning of your trip, you can end up dragging around two hair dryers or forgetting your favourite swimmers. As easy as it is to fall into the trap of packing procrastination, you’ll be amazed at how little you need to bring if you give yourself time to consider your options and come up with a strategy.
Instead of throwing everything you can think of into a suitcase, take a moment to make a list of what you need versus what would be nice to bring if you have additional space. Prescriptions, your everyday toiletries, underwear – these are all musts. But eight pairs of shoes? You can probably pass on a few!
3. Consider multitasking products.
Of the items you own, which are the most versatile? If you’re an avid beach reader, contemplate bringing your e-reader to save on space. Instead of traveling with an assortment of bottled liquids, pack a multi-use product like coconut oil, which can be used as a moisturiser, shaving balm, and hair masque. To save room on clothing, bring pieces you can mix and match; your black cardigan can be worn with a dress on date night and then thrown on casually with shorts when you go to brunch the next morning.
4. Share whenever possible.
If you’re travelling with someone else, think about items you can both use. Perhaps you and your partner can share shampoo and toothpaste, or you can borrow your friend’s curling iron and she can use your sunscreen. There’s no reason to double up when you don’t have to!
5. Keep your resort’s facilities in mind.
What will you have access to during your stay? If your Miami apartment features a washer and dryer, you can pack fewer outfits and launder them frequently. Do you overdo it on the board games when you travel with the kids? You can leave the recreational props at home if your resort has a game room!
With all the space you’ve saved, it’ll be easy to pick up souvenirs for friends back home, or hop from bus to plane without holding up the line. Enjoy taking a load off!
